Student (15) stabs schoolmate over broom

The suspect had accused the victim of taking a broom without permission

A 15-year-old Form 2 student at a Bulawayo High School in Mzilikazi faces attempted murder following a stabbing incident involving his 16-year-old victim during a misunderstanding over a broom.
Police said on their official social media handle that they were investigating the shock incident which happened inside the school premises.
According to police, the 15-year-old allegedly struck the victim, who is also in Form 2, with a brick on the head and stabbed him on the chest with a pair of scissors.
“Police in Bulawayo are investigating a case of attempted murder which occurred at a high school in Mzilikazi on 28 September 2023.
“A Form Two student (15) hit another Form Two student (16) with a brick on the head before stabbing him with a pair of scissors on the chest after an argument.
“The suspect had accused the victim of taking a broom without permission,” Nyathi said.
Cases of student fights degenerating into murder and near-murder experiences are not new in the country.
In February this year, Wayne Ndlovu, a form four pupil at Founders High School in Bulawayo died after a 16-year-old pupil from a neighbouring school, Hamilton High School stabbed him in gang-related violence.
