Mnangagwa chairs first cabinet after securing new term

By Staff Reporter

President Emmerson Mnangagwa Tuesday presides over his first cabinet after last month’s elections with little policy shift expected of the new administration.

In a Monday statement, Acting Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Martin Rushwaya said the new cabinet convenes this Tuesday.

“The Acting Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet would like to advise cabinet members that the first cabinet meeting will be held at 0900 hours on Tuesday 26th September 2023,” Rushwaya said.

Mnangagwa has earned criticism by from opponents for failure to rejig his administration, staffed with old horses from his previous cabinet.

His old cabinet was condemned for failure to invent workable solutions to remedy the country’s myriad economic problems.

But Mnangagwa, in campaign messages for the just-ended polls, claimed his government delivered on its last objectives especially in terms of improving the country’s road infrastructure.

The Zimbabwean leader also told the United Nations General Assembly recently that his country has the fastest growing economy in the region.
