Ex-model Mercy Mushaninga to do community service after fraud conviction

Former model Mercy Mushaninga was Tuesday ordered to perform 350 hours of community service after a Harare court spared the one-time Miss Princess Zimbabwe jail time following her conviction Friday for defrauding five young models of US$10 200.
She was Tuesday ordered by magistrate Yeukai Dzuda to perform community service at VID Belvedere.
Dzuda said Mushaninga had “showed remorse by tendering a letter of apology to the complainants”.
Said the magistrate, “The complainants suffered a financial loss and sentencing her to a custodial sentence will render it difficult to restitution the money.
“Taking into consideration the mitigation and aggravation, the court sees that she deserves another chance.”
Mushaninga was sentenced to 28 months imprisonment but six months were suspended on condition she does not commit a similar offence leaving her with 22 months.
From that 12 months were suspended on condition she restitutes the complainants of their losses while 10 months suspended on condition that she performs 350 hours community service.
